Requirements:
The Dispatcher/Driver must hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (C.D.L.) and a valid School Bus Drivers License.

Job Description:
The Dispatcher/Driver position includes the duties of operating and supervising the operation of school buses and/or vans for the purpose of transporting children to and from schools,
athletic events, camps, or other special activities or events. This may include the transportation of handicapped individuals to and from schools and special training classes, as well as the elderly to and from hospitals, recreation areas or other locations.

Among the duties of the Dispatcher/Driver are:
    1. Arrives at the Bus Depot each day prior to beginning of any transportation activities.

    2. Receives telephone calls from bus drivers and bus attendants who may call in sick.
    Such calls may also be received at the Dispatcher/Driver’s home the prior evening

    3. Contacts available intermittent bus drivers and bus attendants in order to fill any
    vacancies on routes or trips.

    4. Supervises the operation of the Bus Depot throughout the work day, including the
    supervision of bus inspections by drivers, and the proper flow of traffic and proper parking
    of buses and vans.

    5. Receives communications from drivers on buses or vans during the workday. May
    make calls to drivers on busses, vans and/or the homes of drivers or attendants during
    the workday.

    6. Handles routine transportation problems or scheduling conflicts.

    7. Refers more serious emergencies to the Transportation Office, or if necessary other
    authorities, including the police and/or tow companies.

    8. Sees to it that all communications from the Transportation Office are properly
    distributed to Transportation Department employees, and/or posted at the Bus Depot.

    9. Sees to it that additional assigned work is posted and given to the driver and or attendant
    to whom it was assigned, but does not actually assign such work, except in emergency
    situations.

    10. May need to alter, combine and/or otherwise change scheduled routes or trips in an
    emergency situation and may need to instruct bus drivers and or bus attendants to do
    work other than that which was previously assigned by the Transportation Office.

    11. May be assigned to drive regular bus or van routes at the discretion of the
    Transportation Office.

    12. May be assigned other Transportation Department duties. Such duties may be
    performed at the Bus Depot or the Transportation Office or some other location.

    13. Maintains records of route assignments, additional assigned work, emergency
    assignments, gasoline usage, vehicle condition reports and any other information
    that may be required for the operation of the Transportation Department.

    14. Performs any other related Transportation Department duties that may be assigned.
Hours: The work year for this position shall be 180 days following the school calendar. Hours are 5:45 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily, Monday through Friday. The work day for this position is a total of 10.25 hours per day. The dispatcher/driver will be allowed a 30 minute unpaid lunch break each workday, plus two 10 minute paid rest breaks. In addition, the dispatcher/driver will be paid 30 minutes each workday for receiving and making telephone calls from his/her home. Any additional overtime must be authorized by the Director of Safety, Security and Transportation or his/her designee.
