ELL Education and Career Advisor

Part-Time Evening Position




Job Goal:

Manage an assigned case-load of students enrolled in ELL courses, and provide individualized education and career advising to support the fulfillment of educational, workforce, and job training goals.



  • Provide individual advising sessions to document and assist students in identifying personal, educational, and career goals; and, determine actionable steps and timelines toward meeting their goals.
  • Assist with intakes, assessments, enrollment, and placement to maintain class rosters whenever possible.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and host student orientation workshops and review student handbook with students.
  • Encourage meaningful involvement by connecting with students, monitoring attendance, and adhering to program attendance policies.
  • Refer students to MASS-Hire and/or SCC partners for access to career centers, employers, training and career readiness.
  • Connect and follow up on student goal achievement with current and former students (2ndand 4th Quarter Monitoring) by making follow-up calls to track and document student outcomes.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining the goals, philosophy, and policies of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and SCALE.
  • Maintain accurate records, including student and work logs, learner records, waitlists, attendance, intake assessment results, evaluations, and
  • Communicate effectively with other ECAs, teachers, and program administrator(s) on student and program issues.


Specific Duties:

  • Serve as a clearinghouse of information for student support resources
  • Maintain referral relationship with MassHire and Health, Health and Human Services, and ACLS MetroNorth WIOA partners
  • Prepare weekly reports highlighting student needs, referrals, trends, and college and career readiness insights.
  • Maintains a weekly schedule of one on one advising meetings with students.
  • Submits a weekly attendance and enrollment briefing for ELL PA and Director
  • Coordinate monthly information sessions for prospective and returning students.
  • Perform other miscellaneous department and/or SCALE duties as deemed appropriate by the Program Administrator.



  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, or related field, preferred.
  • Bilingual in Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Portuguese required
  • Demonstrate ability to help students identify strengths, anticipate barriers to success, and practice strategies to overcome barriers.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with supervisors and peers
  • Demonstrated sensitivity & compassion for individuals of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Respect for confidentiality while demonstrating Integrity and Professionalism
  • Certification in BEST Plus 2.0 and TABE CLAS-E Reading/Writing preferred
  • Familiarity with DESE Student support policies preferred.
  • Advanced digital literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Terms of Employment:   Salary based on collective bargaining agreement
