Teacher Assistant positions for 1:1 (one-on-one) student assignments


All Teacher Assistants:
General Duties: This position requires work of an instructional nature in a classroom setting with individuals and/or small groups of students, some of whom may have mental, physical and/or emotional disabilities. Responsibilities: The primary duty of the Teacher Assistant is to assist in student learning and behavior management by carrying out duties deemed necessary by the immediate Supervisor or Administrator including: working with small groups of children with special needs; facilitating behavior intervention plans; assisting in the academic support in one on one and small group situations to support and facilitate learning. Work involves the development of an effective relationship with children having special needs. Maintain accurate records. Reproduce and maintain files of learning materials for use in the classroom. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work with students in a sensitive and effective manner. Learn assigned duties readily and adhere to prescribed classroom procedure. Perform related work as required. Carry out duties deemed necessary by the immediate Administrator or Supervisor such as: lunch/recess duty; reasonable classroom coverage; small group work with children; inventories; correcting papers; assist in carrying out PT/OT programs under the supervision of licensed therapists (when necessary). Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator.


Behavioral Support Assistants:
In addition to the above duties the BEHAVIOR SUPPORT ASSISTANT may also have the following responsibilities-----

Work involves the development of effective personal relationships with students, which may require an unusual amount of patience, consistency, flexibility, tolerance and empathy on the part of the employee. This position requires the frequent and consistent implementation of individual and program based behavioral intervention programs as well as, the collection of daily student data. This position works under the direct supervision of the classroom/special education teacher and building administrator.
Provides ongoing social emotional support to students.
Effectively performs Crisis Prevention and Intervention techniques (both de-escalation and physical restraint) and completes required documentation.
Processes student interactions and behaviors with students in order to determine more appropriate actions in the future.
Collaborates with certified and non-certified staff in order to improve student outcomes.
Collects and maintains student academic, behavioral and safety data.
Participates in ongoing program professional development.
Implements behavioral intervention plans with fidelity and in a consistent manner.
Follows and implements all program specific procedures and protocols.

    Job Requirements

    • QUALIFICATIONS:

      You are eligible to work as a Teacher Assistant if you ---
      1) Hold a Bachelor's Degree

      You are also eligible to work as Teacher Assistant if you--
      1) Hold an Associate Degree or 48 College Credits.
      2) Or have a high school diploma/GED and a passing score of 461 on the Para Pro Test.
      3) AND also have a Certificate of Completion of an approved Teacher Assistant Training Program, in addition to one of the above.'
      (#3 may be waived by the superintendent based on previous experience working with children)

      Other requirements:
      (including but not limited to):
      Experience with special needs children preferred;
      Ability to work as a team;
      Be of good character;
      Ability to work with children and to be patient, understanding, and effective in meeting their needs.
