Job Description

Available Position: High School Social Studies/History Teacher


Reports To: Building Principal


Job Requirements:

  • Valid Washington State Certificate with appropriate endorsement in Social Studies
  • Successful teaching/student teaching experience at the High School level.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of High School education and possess a sincere desire to teach High School students.
  • Demonstrated ability to use effective assessment and instructional strategies to meet student needs in all curriculum areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the four essential teaching behaviors of assessment, evaluation, planning, and instruction to deliver quality programs for all students.
  • Must possess an understanding of classroom based assessments and Common Core State Standards for Language Arts and Social Studies.
  • Strong and well-balanced academic background.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and motivate students and to implement effective teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead AP instruction and other rigorous course offerings.
  • Ability to modify instruction based on data and feedback.
  • Knowledge and experience using technology in the delivery of curriculum and instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to decision-making in collaboration with administrators, other staff members, and the parent community.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Ability to communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Ability to collaborate with other teachers as a member of a Professional Learning Community.
  • Other duties as assigned (maintain accurate records/inventory, management of instructional aids, attendance at faculty meetings).
  • Must meet state requirements for COVID 19 vaccination or an exemption to the COVID 19 vaccination as a condition of employment by the first day of work


  • Willingness to participate in committee work which targets the goals outlined in RSD’s strategic plan.
  • Willingness to participate in curriculum development at the building level.
  • Willingness and ability to assist with a variety of coaching and/or other co-curricular activities highly desirable.
  • Understanding of language acquisition programs such as EL Achieve.

Terms of Employment:

Starting Date: 2022-23 School Year

Salary: Based on education and experience 2022-23 Salary Schedule
