Job Description

Primary Function: To support classroom teachers as they implement research-based reading strategies in conjunction with district resources

 

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Academic Services

 

Coordinates With: BK-4 building principals and BK-4 instructional staff

 

Qualifications:          

- Extensive knowledge of research-based literacy instruction

- Extensive knowledge of working with adult learners to implement
   instructional strategies in the classroom

                       

Responsibilities:

The literacy coach’s primary responsibility is to ensure that students become successful readers by supporting staff in their literacy instruction. The literacy coach’s responsibilities include:

  1. Following the district vision for literacy instruction, assessment, and intervention, while improving practices using knowledge of current research in these areas
  2. Providing learning opportunities for teachers centered around research-based literacy instruction
  3. Spending time in teachers’ classrooms observing literacy lessons to provide them with feedback
  4. Attending building collaborative sessions to provide support for teachers
  5. Utilizing, supplement, and enhance district approved literacy resources as a base for teacher support
  6. Coordinating with the assistant superintendent for academic services and BK-4 building principals to support district and building literacy initiatives

 

Schedule, Compensation, and Hours:

  1. The literacy coach is expected to report to the district 20 hours per week for 40 weeks.
  2. The literacy coach will fall under the teacher collective bargaining agreement for days, weeks, and compensation.
  3. The literacy coach needs to provide the assistant superintendent for academic services and BK-4 building principals with a weekly schedule prior to the start of each week.
