Job Description


Walton Elementary School in Wakefield is seeking a part-time elementary math specialist to provide math intervention and acceleration to elementary students. The math specialist will provide research-based math intervention support to elementary students who are performing below grade level to strengthen critical math skills that will help them succeed in future years. In addition, the math specialist will provide grade-level enrichment support to deepen understanding and challenge elementary students who are performing above grade level.  



SALARY: $25/hour; 12-15 hours per week



  • Provide research-based math intervention to small groups of students in 6-8 week cycles to target specific skills identified by assessment data
  • Provide grade-level math enrichment and extension to small groups of students
  • Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among students in the small groups in order to accelerate students’ growth in conceptual understanding and math skills
  • Participate in ongoing training with Elementary Curriculum Coordinator and STEM Coach in implementing research-based intervention curricula
  • Meet regularly with Principals, Elementary Curriculum Coordinator and STEM Coach to review progress monitoring data on students, make adjustments to instruction, and select students for upcoming cycles
  • Performs other related duties as assigned



  • Experience instructing students in grades K-5, and in-depth knowledge of math concepts, instructional strategies, and differentiated instruction.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics skills and/or a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and stay current.
  • Proven ability to use formative assessment data on a daily basis to inform instruction and lesson design
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong people skills: An ability to quickly build strong relationships with students and teachers
