Position Summary:
The high school principal is responsible to the Superintendent for the operation of Marshwood High School.
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of five years experience in School Administration
Master’s Degree or higher in education
Maine Department of Education Administrator’s Certification (040 Building Administrator) and Criminal History Record Check Certificate eligibility
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable

1.Supervises the educational program
a.Monitors curriculum implementation
b.Evaluates existing curriculum
c.Makes recommendations regarding changes in curriculum
2.Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate
a.Utilizes an advisory group to make recommendations regarding pertinent
issues
b.Utilizes committees to investigate pertinent issues
c.Conducts staff meetings
3.Oversees evaluation process
a.Conducts evaluation process according to district policy
b.Counsels staff on instructional improvement
c.Makes recommendations to the superintendent regarding staff contract issues
4.Develops Master Schedule
a.Prepares program of studies
b.Supervises pre-registration process
c.Prepares Master Schedule
d.Assigns faculty to classes
5.Oversees Fiscal process
a.Submits the budget
b.Monitors expenditures
c.Relates budget to educational programs
d.Maintains an inventory
6.Participates in the staff recruitment process
a.Screens and interviews applicants
b.Makes recommendations to the superintendent
c.Conducts orientation process
7.Implements the inservice program.
8.Supervises emergency preparedness program.
9.Supervises the school improvement plan.
10.Establishes guidelines for proper student conduct
a.Maintains a liaison with the Assistant Principals regarding the discipline
program
b.Makes recommendations regarding serious discipline cases to the
Superintendent
c. Organizes the student handbook
11.Directs the student activities program
a.Supervises the assistant principal regarding student activities
b.Represents Marshwood High School to MSSPA
c.Directs major events like prom, senior banquet, and graduation
12.Represents Marshwood High School to the community
a.Implements the community relations programs
b.Prepares newsletters and press releases
c.Serves on appropriate school and community committees
13.Oversees support services
a.Directs the custodial staff
b.Makes recommendations to the superintendent’s office
c.Consults with the food services supervisor
14.Supervises office staff
a.Allocates responsibility
b.Oversees financial accounting
15.Represents Marshwood High School to NASSP and NEASC
a.Communicates with NEASC regarding accreditation issues
b.Communicates with NASSP regarding pertinent issues
16.Prepares reports as necessary.
17.Attends meetings as required, performs tasks as assigned, and keeps the superintendent informed regarding pertinent issues.
