Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) The Dean of Students promotes responsibility among students, both for individual conduct and membership in the school community:

-administers the Discipline Code including due process procedures for Grades 7-1
-provides behavioral intervention and counseling for students
-models and coaches students in appropriate conflict management and anger management
-models and coaches faculty in appropriate classroom and conflict management
-works with faculty, staff, parents and guardians to develop student responsibility
-develops behavior management programs and plans for individuals and/or groups
-works with students to develop and implement appropriate behavior plans and monitors the plans over time and documents effectiveness
-addresses harassment, bullying, and related complaints
-works with Grades 7-12 Principal/Assistant Principal and other Administrators to investigate, document, and resolve complaints

2) The Dean of Students administers the discipline system and all policies governing student conduct outlined in the Student Handbook:

-keeps records of incidents of behavior problems and disciplinary actions
-coordinates with faculty and parents with matters of discipline
-issues disciplinary consequences, warnings, probation, etc., as necessary
-notifies families and others as necessary, according to school policy and state and federal law
-provides input on the annual review and revision of the Student Handbook, making recommendations for changes to the Grades 7-12 Assistant Principal
-communicates and works with law enforcement officers, DSS, DYS and other organizations as necessary

3) The Dean of Students confers with the Grades 7-12 Principal/Assistant Principal on the attendance system, with a focus on the effect of absences and tardies on student behavior and overall performance.

4) The Dean of Students promotes students’ positive and appropriate participation in co-curricular activities:

-When assigned, serves as the head chaperone at after school student activities such as school dances
-works with Athletic Director to respond to violations of Athletic Policy
-serves in an administrative role at other student events as needed (e.g., Musical, some athletic events)

5) The Dean of Students serves on the Administrative Team:

-works full school day hours and others as necessary to fulfill responsibilities as a member of the administration
-meets regularly with other administrators as determined by Grades 7-12 Principal/Assistant Principal
-works with Administrative Crisis Team to plan, practice, and implement emergency procedures and assists in student crisis support

6) Any other responsibilities the Grades 7-12 Principal/Assistant Principal deems necessary

7) Other requirements:

-184-day, administrative position with an individual contract and salary to be negotiated with the Superintendent.
-Minimum of five years teaching experience required at the middle school and/or high school level.
-Valid middle school and/or high school teacher's license.
