SUMMARY:


 

Supervisory and manual work in connection with care and maintenance of buildings and grounds, related work as required.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Works under the general supervision of a Head Custodian.
  • Performs responsible janitorial duties requiring some judgment in supervising a crew of custodial workers engaged in cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Makes occasional routine contact beyond immediate associates.
  • Exercises supervision over a small crew of assistants.
  • Some effort required to correct errors that may involve damage to property.
  • Frequent physical effort demanded in lifting materials and in continuous walking and standing under conditions at times subject to dirt, rain, snow or other disagreeable factors.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Examples of Work:

 

  • Supervises and participates in cleaning and maintenance operations.
  • Sweeps, dusts, scrubs and mops rooms, corridors, washrooms and toilets.
  • Washes floors, walls, windows and furniture; cleans tables and sinks.
  • Polishes floors, furniture and metal work; performs minor repairs to furniture.
  • Sets up tables and chairs; carries and delivers supplies and materials.
  • Empties waste baskets and disposes of refuse; shovels snow, replaces lights.
  • Cares for grounds, mows grass and trims shrubbery.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

High School graduate; one year of experience in custodial and maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Considerable knowledge of cleaning materials and methods.  Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor.  Ability to supervise the work of subordinates. Good character and personal habits
