Job Description

Seeking an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, to provide leadership and direction for planning, development, implementation and assessment of all aspects of the district’s preK-12 curriculum and instructional programs. To act as the designee of the superintendent in the absence of the superintendent.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and educational attainment.

Supervision:Reports to the Superintendent of Schools. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws, School Committee policies and the direction of the Superintendent of Schools.

Performance Responsibilities:

a.Develops, with directors, principals, department heads, grade level coordinators and teachers, curriculum consistent with district philosophy and goals and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

b.Coordinates and evaluates all curriculum and instructional programs and practices and makes appropriate recommendations for modifications to insure alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

c.Designs and implements, with directors, and principals, professional development activities which address curriculum and instructional needs.

d.Oversees the administration of the statewide assessment system.

e.Coordinates the application for grants and the administration of grant funded programs to ensure alignment with district goals in curriculum and instruction.

f.Serves as a member of the district’s Administrative Team.

g.Supervises Data & Evaluation Specialists and Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Office, Title I Program, English Language Learner Program and 21st Century After School Programs.

h.Serves as an input evaluator for instruction and curriculum implementation.

i.Assist with the district supervision and evaluation model, work jointly with the administrative team to ensure that effective strategies for improving instruction and student outcomes are implemented.

j.Performs all other duties as directed by the Superintendent.

  • Job Requirements

    • Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:
      a.Minimum of a Master’s Degree, Doctorate Degree preferred, plus at least five years administrator experience.
      b.Massachusetts certification as Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent with significant experience in curriculum development and broad knowledge of instructional practices.
      c.Proven record of leadership ability in school administration, program evaluation and professional staff development with excellent interpersonal skills.
      d.Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the statewide assessment system.
      e.Demonstrated ability to raise student achievement and improve underperforming school through a results oriented approach driven by data
      f.Demonstrated ability to work well with others and to collaborate to solve problems and build high performing teams.
      g.Superior written and verbal communication skills
      h.Working knowledge of various computer programs; working knowledge of computer student information management systems.

      EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated every two years by the Superintendent of Schools.

      Physical Requirements: The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.

      Environmental Conditions:The occupant is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents are toners, inks, and cleaning fluids.
