Job Description

DESCRIPTION:

Wakefield Public Schools is seeking two elementary educators with a background and interest in teaching science to join our staff.  We are seeking energetic, flexible, enthusiastic teachers to continue growing our science education program in grades K-4. The science teachers will be responsible for teaching standards-based science lessons with the support of the classroom teachers. Each position will be shared between two schools and educators will be responsible for teaching science to all grade K-2 classrooms 1-2 times per week.

 

SALARY: Per Unit A Contract

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and teach standards-based science lessons in Grades K-2 with the support of classroom teachers
  • Assess student progress and complete science portion of report cards
  • Work collaboratively with district level staff to review and revise science curriculum and coordinate ordering and purchase of materials
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to understand students’ needs
  • Communicate regular science curriculum updates to families 

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to share responsibility and work as a member of a team and possess strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, collaboration, collegiality)
  • MA Elementary Teacher certification with a strong understanding of the MA STE Curriculum Frameworks and best practices in elementary science instruction
  • Science education background preferred
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and technology skills
