Job Description

The Autism Program at The Wilder School is looking for a full-time licensed special educator to join their team. The Autism Program provides educational and clinical services for students from the Upper Valley and surrounding communities, in elementary through high school, who have autism. Utilizing principles of applied behavior analysis, staff work to teach their students effective communication skills, social skills, functional academic skills, self-help/personal care skills, functional life skills, community participation skills and vocational skills. The program is part of the Hartford Area Regional Collaborative and based out of a newly renovated, state of the art building in Wilder, VT.

    Job Requirements

    • Essential Skills Needed: The special educator would need to be able to plan and provide direct and indirect instruction, of a variety of functional skills, to students with intensive needs both in the classroom and out in the community. This individual would be responsible for:
      • The case management (writing individualized education plans, behavior intervention plans, communications with families, collaboration with related service providers, etc.) of up to 5 students.
      • Teaching in small group instructional settings (classes with a student-staff ratio of up to 4:2).
      • Utilizing a variety of assessment tools/curriculum guides to assist in the development of appropriate goals and individualized programming for their students including: the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program, the Assessment of Functional Life Skills, Essentials for Living and the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills.
      • Establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicating those objectives to all teachers, paraprofessionals and related service providers for essential maintenance and generalization of students’ skills.
      • Supervising and providing ongoing training and support for paraprofessionals.
      • Teaching socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students’ IEPs, by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
      • Meeting with parents to discuss their child’s progress and to determine priorities for their child and their individualized education needs.
      • Creating and maintaining accurate and complete student data systems and records and preparing reports on student progress.

      The successful candidate must have prior experience teaching students with autism and other related developmental disabilities. Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA) is highly preferred.
    • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
