JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position:          Director of English Language Learner (ELL) Programs

Job Goal:        

 

The Director of ELL provides instructional leadership and a proven ability to share best practices in order to build positive working relationships with all constituents and to provide high-quality instruction to students in the district’s ELL program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and knowledge in ELL instruction and/or culturally proficient educational practices.

 

Supervision:    Reports to Director of Student Services for day-to-day programming. 

 

Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:

           

  • Licensed in English as a Second Language, and as a Director/Supervisor in the State of Massachusetts
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, in a related field
  • Experience teaching ELL students (minimum 5 years)
  • Knowledge of WIDA Standards and MA Curriculum Frameworks, and MCAS
  • Certified to administer ACCESS Exam
  • Ability to use data, including data as a means of promoting instructional access and curriculum planning for high-quality EL instruction
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

  1. Implements the District’s plan for delivering ELL services and supports and communicates this plan to school administration, staff, and the public.
  2. Coordinates the ongoing development, implementation, and coordination of the system’s K-12 curricula in English Language Learning.
  3. Coordinates/conducts/supports assessments of ELL students as outlined by DESE, including MCAS assessments and the mandated state & local testing
  4. Oversees the maintenance of student ELL files in accordance with the requirements of DESE.
  5. Works with school-based staff members to enroll students and maintain updates to the District’s ELL roster.
  6. Works collaboratively with teachers and focuses on developing teacher expertise in the PreK-12 ELL curriculum in order to implement a guaranteed viable           curriculum, administers common (formative and summative) assessments, and             uses student data to refine teaching practices in the PreK-12 ELL curriculum.
  7. Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of common assessments in collaboration with classroom teachers.
  8. Facilitates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district’s PreK-12 ELL programs, common assessments, and curriculum.
  9. Maintains current curriculum materials, approved courses, credit information, registration guides, and other important information concerning the district’s     PreK-12 ELL education curriculum.
  10. Assists in constructing a vision and three-year plan for PreK-12 ELL education.
  11. Assists staff with utilizing data to inform instruction and works collaboratively when students require support from special education.
  12. Serves as a liaison between Superintendent, building principals, department leaders, classroom teachers, students, and parents.
  13. Manages the ACCESS assessments and makes certain that all of the requirements from the DESE are being met by all deadlines. Acts as the District RETELL    
  14. Familiar with Edwin Analytics and maintains compliance with DESE ELE regulations
  15. Leads and actively participates in the ELL Parent Advisory Council.
  16. Supervises and evaluates the staff members in the ELL Department.
  17. Oversees the plan to assist teachers in obtaining SEI Endorsements required for
  18. To write, oversee, and manage all aspects of the Title III grant and other ELL- related grants as they become available.

 

Reports to:  Assistant Superintendent

 

Contract:  The duration and salary are to be established as part of contract negotiations. Anticipated to be 205 working days and up to $100,000 annual salary.
