POSITION:        Special Education Teacher- Severe Special Needs (22-23 School Year)

                                                

LOCATION:       Galvin Middle School

 

SALARY:           per contract based on experience

 

SUMMARY:

Galvin Middle School is seeking a qualified special educator to teach students with disabilities in our STAR Program, a substantially separate program for students who are medically fragile. 

 

Self-care, health, medical needs and physical development;

Therapist: speech/communication, OT, PT;

Academics (content-based, functional skills, and pre-vocational skills);

Regulation of behavior

 

QUALIFICATION:
Licensed MA Special Education teacher, Severe Special Needs

  • Experience working with students with multiple disabilities in need of individualized academic support, therapies and daily living skills. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with a team to support student needs. 
  • Experience directing and supporting paraprofessionals to meet student needs. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consult with student teams and develop an instructional model and practices that support students with severe special needs across academic settings which may include planning and implementation of a small group, 1:1 and inclusion support. 
  • Complete informal and formal diagnostic assessments and make recommendations for IEP programming and scheduling based on results
  • Serve as liaison for students on middle school academic team
  • Participate in and at times, lead special education meetings with the purpose of developing IEPs specific to the needs of students.
  • Coordinate schedule with service providers to ensure compliance with service delivery grids across settings
  • Collect, compile and interpret  data for progress monitoring and adjusting instructional practice. Support grading and develop progress reports connected to IEP goals. 
  • Support the process of creating MCAS Alternate Assessment Portfolios
  • Communicate regularly with parents, reporting progress and discussing areas of struggle
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of student IEPs
  • Incorporate assistive technology to support student needs
  • Collaborate with special education related service providers who are providing support and consult for students.
