Job Summary


 


School Directors report to the Chief Academic Officer. This position is a member of CMI’s leadership and will be responsible for overseeing the development, growth, and daily success of the Elementary School. The Director will lead teaching and learning in classrooms by overseeing the instructional program. 


Duties and Responsibilities:


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Implementing the CMI Model;
  • Offering frequent, targeted feedback to teachers on their instructional practice through formal and informal observations;
  • Identifying, ordering, and distributing instructional resources that support CMI’s unique learning model;
  • Meeting weekly with other members of CMI’s leadership team to discuss CMI’s needs;
  • Sharing important information regarding teaching and learning with CMI staff via email and in person;
  • Supporting teachers with the planning and implementation of Common Core aligned curriculum in ELA and Math;
  • Supporting all teachers with the delivery of critical thinking instruction that will prepare students for success on the PARCC exam and in lower school;
  • Supporting compliance and accountability activities as needed in the areas of teaching and learning;
  • Leading teachers through a process of data-driven analysis of student performance data to inform re-teaching;
  • Assisting in planning and implementing professional development sessions for teachers related to teaching and learning;
  • Supporting teachers with the implementation of the International Years Curriculum;
  • Holding all teachers and staff to high expectations of accountability for their performance;
  • Interviewing, hiring, and on-boarding new teachers and Student Aides;
  • Supporting the process for the training of, planning for, and implementing of schoolwide assessments (internal and external);
  • Supporting teachers with differentiating their instruction for all learners;
  • Collaborating closely with the Inclusion Director and Middle School Director during the process of instructional decision-making;
  • Ensuring that all classrooms offer students an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment;
  • Overseeing the implementation of activities to enrich learning such as field trips and guest speakers;
  • Meeting with parents and families to discuss issues related to teaching, learning, and discipline;
  • Overseeing the planning and implementation of CMI’s Summer Institute and ongoing professional development sessions throughout the year;
  • Valuing the importance of play, exploration, and creativity in all classrooms;
  • Using effective, positive, respectful interpersonal communication skills;
  • Establishing positive relationships with colleagues, students, families, and the community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual;
  • Supporting the planning of CMI critical documents such as the Student and Family Handbook, the Staff Handbook, and the school calendar;
  • Representing CMI at community events;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

 Education/License and Experience:


  • Have a Master’s degree in Education and certification in Education; 
  • Five or more years of successful classroom teaching experience in an urban school setting as a teacher;
  • Previous school leadership experience
