Salary:            $ 100,823.94 (prorated for 2022 school year)

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Principal is a leader responsible for contributing to and communicating a vision and focused plan for improving student achievement and student behavior; supporting teachers in improving their instructional practice; creating a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; and fostering a culture of high expectations for all students. In addition, the AP is charged with building strong partnerships with families and community, creating a safe, supportive school climate, and effectively managing operational, technical and staff issues to promote instructional progress.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supervise athletic contests, dances, and other student activities throughout the year as needed.
  2. Assist in the development of a school class schedule that provides the greatest opportunities for students and effectively utilizes the talents of staff.
  3. Collaborate with administrative leadership team district-wide, initiate a strong sense of team and serve on committees as appropriate.
  4. Develop and foster community connections that will enhance the educational experience of all students.
  5. Effectively manage conflict within the school building.
  6. Supervise, coach and evaluate employees according to district policy.
  7. Report issues to authorities as necessary, child abuse, suspicious activity etc.
  8. Participate in school, district, region, and state meetings as appropriate.
  9. Counsel students and parents about school and district policies.
  10. Assist in monitoring and supervision of school facilities.
  11. Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues.
  12. Understand Washington and federal education laws and be able to effectively communicate related accountability systems.
  13. Support the principal in leading the implementation of the school improvement plan.
  14. Modify and keep updated the student and parent handbook.
  15. Identify students that have special needs and understand student referral systems.
  16. Advocate for children and actively embrace community involvement.
  17. Appreciate and respect diversity and difference in both teaching and learning.
  18. Inspire innovation among school community.
  19. Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  20. Demonstrate a commitment to your personal growth and learning.
  21. Effectively balance flexibility and organization.
  22. Manage student supervision issues and enforce school behavioral expectations with assigning appropriate consequences for behavior including detention, in school suspension and out of school suspension.
  23. Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations.
  24. Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies (PBIS).
  25. Comply with applicable district, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  26. Attend work regularly.
  27. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Attends educational support meetings, including individualized education program (IEP) meetings, 504 meetings, RTI meetings and school board meetings as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for this position must meet the minimum qualifications.

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree
  • Washington Teaching License
  • Current Washington Administrator Certificate or enrollment in administrator licensure program
  • Recent positive performance evaluations
  • Positive recommendations from recent supervisors

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful teaching experience at the high school level
  • Desire to lead the Associated Student Body
