Job Description

Position Summary: To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the Maynard Public Schools. Additionally, to provide support to the district as needed during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Responsibilities:
•Attend to student and employee illnesses and/or injuries, and maintain a daily log.
•Maintain a list of students' health problems, and distribute on a "need to know basis".
•Complete forms for all accidents on school premises.
•Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records for students.
•Review sports physical exam and provide a list of eligible students to Athletic Director before participation.
•Supervise compliance with Immunization Laws.
•Coordinate Hearing, Vision, Postural Screening, weight, and other DESE/as mandated by waiver.
•Assess and evaluate data from Interval Health Questionnaire/Health History Grades 4-7-10 and all new students.
•Coordinate training of First Responders in "Code Blue" Emergency Procedure.
•Supervise the Medication Administration program in the school system. (105 CMR 210.00 Regulations).
•Review and implement policy on exclusion and readmission of students and staff in connection with infectious contagious diseases.
•Perform additional related duties as directed by the principal of the Director of Special Education.
•School nurse may be asked to be an active member of the Emergency Responder Group, Child Abuse and Neglect Team, Building-Based Support Teams, Resource person for Health Education Curriculum.

Required Skills/Abilities:
•Knowledge of community agencies to help students and their families.
•Knowledge of SNAP - School Nursing software, highly preferred
•Ability to speak, read, and write English clearly and concisely. Fluency in a second or multiple languages a plus (especially Spanish or Portuguese fluency).
•Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals and individuals in distress
•Knowledge of district policies and procedures

Education and Experience:
•Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing with current Massachusetts license/Registration in Nursing.
•Bachelor degree required
•Department of Secondary and Elementary Education Certified or eligible School nursing experience required.
•1 - 3 years experience in pediatrics, community health or school setting.
•Experience working with children of all abilities preferred.
•Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
