Job Description

Essex Westford School District has an immediate need for full-time, school year paraeducators to join our Essex High School team to support our ExCEL (Expanding Connections for Education, Employment and Life) program. ExCEL offers functional life skills, academics, social communication skills and employment development skills for students with intellectual disabilities that significantly impact their academic achievement.

The Individual Assistant in the ExCEL program assists an intensive special needs high school student physically, behaviorally and instructionally in the school setting. The Individual Assistant pay rate starts at $19.85/hour.

Candidates with prior medical assistant or nursing experience are encouraged to apply! This position is also a fantastic opportunity for candidates interested in a medical assistant career and seeking an opportunity to grow and build your skills.

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
  • Prior medical assistant or nursing experience helpful
  • Experience in a school setting preferred, but not required.
  • Experience and knowledge working with special needs individuals and/or experience working with high school aged youth preferred.
  • Must be able to perform toileting and tube feeding duties, as well as the ability to lift high school aged students.
  • General knowledge of special education teaching methods, theories and laws preferred.
  • Flexibility within schedule to meet the bus and/or stay with student(s) at the end of the school day.
