Job Description

Position Summary:

 

The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students of all grade levels to and from school(s), field trips, school-related activities, and other special trips in a safe and timely manner.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification and Experience

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED from an accredited educational institution
  • One year of successful experience working with children
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements
  • Meet all DOE Requirements including attendance of 6 hours of in-service annually

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all federal, state, and district requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand, walk, sit, reach outward
  • Able to lift 20 lbs. or less
  • Vision (near, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception)
  • Sense of sound (ability to converse with others, conduct telephone conversations)

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Excellent driving skills and possess an Arkansas Class B CDL with P and S endorsements
  • Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, procedures and traffic laws/ ordinances
  • Ability to deal with students in a courteous manner
  • Ability to deal with adults in a responsible and courteous manner
  • Fuels bus as needed
  • Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections
  • Participates in on-site training as required
  • Continuous proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus
  • Drives specific routes transporting students to and from school; must be punctual with
  • appropriate attendance record
  • Addresses behavior problems when necessary in order to maintain safety
  • Inspects bus for damage at end of each run
  • Completes paperwork such as student count, recording mileage, accident reports, and vehicle maintenance requests
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned
