SCHOOL NURSE FLOAT ONE YEAR POSITION (#1400)

POSITION TITLE: School Nurse Float One Year Position

LOCATION:  Districtwide

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Licensed RN, 2 years of acute care experience         
• Must have current healthcare provider CPR certificate
• DESE school license preferred
• Valid CORI

DEFINITION:

 Identifies the health needs of individual students within the school setting. The nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and managing an individual health care plan for a defined population.  Responsibilities include nursing services, collaboration with physicians, families and community agencies, health resources and maintenance of standards of professional care.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support COVID-19 efforts on-campus, includingtesting, implementation of safety protocols and tracking of staff and students with symptoms of COVID-19
• Assist with protocols and policies related to WPS responses to COVID-19

• Responsible for emergency care and first aid
• Prepares and completes reports for any accident occurring to pupils while under the jurisdiction of the School Department
• Acts as a resource person concerning health issues of individual students
• Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes governing nursing and school health.
• Utilize the nursing process, and collaborate with the parent/guardian, student, and supportive services, where appropriate, to develop and implement an individualized health care plan for a student aimed at improving health and educational status
• Respond to frequently encountered health issues, providing counseling and crisis intervention when required, including assessment, treatment and referral
• Act as the designated medical assessors, for individual students
•  Communicate the health status of pupils to the appropriate school personnel
• Attend team meetings for the development of IEP or 504 plans that require a medical component

• Assume responsibility for continuing own education and obtain consultation, supervision and peer review as needed

• Conducts those functions and activities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools
