Full-Time and Permanent; Non-Exempt; 8 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade: EE

 

General Responsibilities

 

This position is responsible for the safe and prompt transfer and delivery of all warehouse supplies and material to various locations throughout Norfolk and neighboring cities; and the pickup and delivery of intra-system mail, including printed forms, textbooks, and back ordered items.  Delivery may involve an established route requiring delivery within a specific timeframe.  Work requires the safe operation of an assigned truck and knowledge of roads located in the City of Norfolk and surrounding areas.  Employees in this classification may transport items to other locations outside of Norfolk when requested.

 

Education and Experience

 

Requires graduation from high school and experience driving large trucks and five (5) years of customer service.  A CDL is required.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Completes and submits daily delivery reports showing items delivered and routes traveled.
  • Maintains an accurate and up-to-date file on all audiovisual equipment repair tickets with proper signatures to verify the pickup and delivery of all equipment.
  • May haul recyclable paper, unused or damaged furniture, and other items from various locations to the warehouse or a dump location.
  • May assist in unloading incoming cargo from other trucks.
  • Inspects truck routinely; ensures that routine preventive maintenance is performed on assigned truck; washes truck.
  • Prepares truck for next day delivery; retrieves mail, packages, boxes, etc., from the other drivers.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties in the warehouse as needed, including assisting clerks with shipping and receiving functions.
  • May assist with setting up shelters for hurricanes, tornados, etc., if necessary.
  • An employee in this classification is responsible for verifying items delivered and received.
  • Driving to designated locations; picking up, transferring or delivering the assigned items; and completing the related paperwork.
  • Loading items onto the truck.
  • Daily contact is maintained with school cafeteria staff, principals, Norfolk Public School employees, the public and others while performing essential functions of the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
