Job Description

The Ottauquechee School in Hartford, VT seeks a dynamic and dedicated professional to support our Think Tank intensive needs program. Successful candidates will have certification as a licensed mental health clinician, social worker or similar and/or as an elementary or special education teacher. The ideal candidate would have specific skills and experience related to supporting therapeutic goals of elementary-aged children, as well as providing effective instruction. Candidates with a strong portfolio in either of those areas and an interest in working in this type of program are encouraged to apply.

The Ottauquechee School is a PreK-5 program with an enrollment of just over 200 students and a highly collaborative culture. As a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school, we believe that all students can achieve academic and social success given appropriate support, including social emotional learning. Our teachers infuse inquiry into all disciplines, build scholars’ capacity for higher order thinking, prioritize student-engaged assessment, use data to inform instruction, and above all, model and foster a growth mindset. Our co-teaching teams challenge diverse learners to achieve excellence through appropriate accommodations and differentiation.

This position is a unique role providing support and intervention to learners who experience significant social/emotional, behavioral, physical or cognitive challenges. The ideal candidate would be prepared to provide support and instruction across school environments, including a small, therapeutic classroom setting, as well as inclusion in the general education classroom. Daily duties are flexible, and negotiated with the other adults in the program, and might include data collection, academic and/or social-emotional skills instruction, direct counseling to students/families, collaboration with and consultation to other educators, and coordination with outside agencies to provide community support. For applicants with a teaching credential, duties may also include differentiating lessons to meet student needs, or for special educators, participating in IEP case management.

The Ottauquechee School, in alignment with Hartford School District’s Anti-Racism Policy, believes that the educational experience of every student is enhanced through the professional contributions of representatives of various races, ethnicities, genders, physical abilities, ages and sexual orientations, and that a diverse and culturally competent faculty is essential in the creation of a rigorous learning environment free of bias and inequities.
