Job Description

Academic Advisor (2021-2022)
Under the supervision of the Director of Guidance, this position will provide academic support and instruction for college readiness and guidance groups to scholars in grades 7-12.

Reports to: Director of Guidance

Essential Functions

•Individual student academic advising, planning and goal setting for grades 9-10
•Lead college specific instruction for grades 9-10
•Collaboration with families, teachers, administrators, and community partners for student success
•Data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges
•Lead small-group tutoring, coaching, goal-setting, and academic case management designed to bridge the gaps in students’ understanding
•Work closely with Guidance Counselor 11-12 to support student post-graduate plans
•Participate in regular professional development
•Assist with the registration, test prep plan, administration and analysis of testing programs with the school (PSAT, SAT, NWEA, Map)
•Assist with the School Wide Advisory Program
•Other duties as required by school needs

Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
•3-5 years professional experience at an urban school
•Ability to lead class discussions/lessons
•High-level interpersonal and communication skills
•Ability to work with and respect a diverse community
•Knowledge of college application process
•Any exceptions to these requirements as determined by Principal
