Class Title:Art Teacher
Classification:Teacher – 183 days
Immediate Supervisor:Principal and/or Designee

Under the direction of the Principal the Art teacher shall assist in carrying out his/her responsibilities and shall act as consultant and art teaching specialist in the improvement of art instruction when requested.

1.Follow a regular schedule of art education lessons with each classroom designated by the regulation in every school assigned.
2.Cooperate with the Principal of each school in which he/she works and is to be directed and supervised by the Principal in the functioning aspects of establishing and carrying out the art program in the school.
3.Assist the Principal in the maintenance of school bulletin boards whenever requested to do so.
4.Attend all meetings called by the Principal of the school wherein the art program in the school is involved.
5.Assist the Assistant Superintendent by:
a.Attend and cooperate in all meetings called relative to the art education program
b.Take an active part in State Art Educators’ Organizations.
c.Attend Art Education Conferences and/or Workshops designated by the Superintendent.
6. Teach, develop, and emphasize variety in media, individual creativity, and work reflective of differing levels of maturity as an integral part of the program.
7.Follow the teaching syllabus prescribed by the School Department to meet the art education needs of the children.
8.Identify and encourage children with outstanding art abilities while at the same time creatively stimulate children with lesser natural potentials to develop a greater appreciation for art.
•He/she should be familiar with current trends in educational technology as well as knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices.
•Must have a clear understanding of blended and personalized learning theory, pedagogy, and practices as well as experience delivering professional development.
•Must have strong communication, documentation and organizational skills are a must, as is a willingness to learn and grow.
•Must perform duties professionally, thoroughly, in a timely manner, and with a respectful, friendly demeanor in both external and internal relationships.
•Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to a high-energy, fluid environment.
•Must have a growth mindset that leads professional belief system.
•Must have the ability to exercise sound judgement and request assistance when needed.
•Must take initiative to solve problems proactively and work independently on tasks.
•Must respond ethically, professionally and respectfully as needed to difficult situations.
•Must be able to manage time effectively and follow through on assigned tasks accurately.
•Maintain professional demeanor regardless of internal or external concerns.
•Must meet the requirements of the State Board of Regents for certification in his/her area of instruction
Education and Experience

•Bachelor’s Degree
•3-5 years’ experience preferred
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Strong interpersonal skills and problem solving skills
•Strong presentation and facilitation skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, stretching, and walking. The employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear.

The employee is frequently required to use hands, handle, or feel. The employee must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting, and/or moving light objects up to ten (10) lbs., and occasionally lift items slightly over ten (10) lbs. The use of a step stool may be required to reach the top drawer of a filing cabinet as necessary. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision.
