Position Summary:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired works with students within the collaborative and in other districts to teach specific skills and procedures relating to vision loss for students ages 3-22 in a variety of settings using a variety of methods, materials, and adaptive technology. Must have the ability to travel between schools.

Specific Duties:

Consult with TEAM Members. Assess students by conducting assessments in functional vision, learning media and CVI Range. Seek out and participate in appropriate professional development. Assist students in achieving independence and make recommendations for appropriate leisure and social activities according to functional vision. Consults regularly with the classroom teacher, other regular and special education personnel, parents, and others to coordinate programs and services for the visually impaired student. Maintain a record of billable hours and submit monthly in a timely fashion. Attends department meetings as an active member and shares information with colleagues. Excellent teamwork, communication and organization skills needed.


Master’s Degree required. MA DESE certification as Teacher of the Visually Impaired. Dual certification in TVI and O&M or Deaf-Blindness, preferred.
