Job Description

The Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) in Southwestern Vermont is seeking a full-time educational leader who will serve as a district-wide Early Education Director and Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for out of district special education students. The right candidate for this position will hold licensure in Educational Leadership (or be eligible) in Vermont. In addition, a working knowledge of Early Education and Special Education is desirable. The BRSU values creativity, collaborative practices, and a mindset geared toward equity.

Early Education Director responsibilities:

-Coordinates student enrollment at partner programs per Act 166
-Serves as LEA Representative for students in community preschool programs
-Develops and maintains agreements for community programs
-Communicates state and local requirements to community programs
-Provides professional development for public and partner Pre-Kindergarten (PK) program staff
-Ensures high quality, evidence-based, public PK programming is aligned with K-12 curriculum and Vermont Early Learning Standards
-Hold regular team meetings of BRSU PK staff
-Stays informed and ensures compliance with Vermont Early Education Regulations and legislative updates
-Coordinates Child Find activities for Early Education
-Ensures early education programs have the appropriate licensure and accreditation and oversees this process for public PK programs
-Pursues and oversees grant opportunities and creates and reports required by grants
-Reviews, analyzes and reports out on Kindergarten Readiness data
-Collaborates with outside agencies and groups
-Collaborates with BRSU principals on Early Ed. programming and licensure status.
-Serve on a special education leadership team and collaborate with other department leaders throughout the year.

Local Education Agency (LEA) director responsibilities (These responsibilities are not restricted to Pre-K as BRSU students have school choice for some 7th and 8th garage students and all students grades 9 through 12):

-Oversight of special education services and programming for students who attend schools outside our supervisory union
-Act as LEA representative at special education meetings
-Demonstrate a clear understanding of state and federal special education law
--Collaborate with a variety of school and supervisory union teams
-Communicate with independent school special education teams in problem solving for BRSU students
-Meet with out of district special education directors concerning BRSU students
-Perform leadership tasks related to special education
-Approve special education programming and billing for BRSU students in independent schools
