Educational Interpreter
2021-2022 School Year

WSESU has an opening for a full-time Educational Interpreter to provide interpreting and support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in general education learning environments. Successful candidates will be fluent in ASL with experience interpreting spoken language for deaf and hard of hearing children, their peers, teachers, and other personnel in the school system.

Other duties that may be performed include:

-Academic support in the general education environment; including direct instruction under the supervision of a Teacher of the Deaf.
-Participation in educational team meetings, such as IEP meetings, either in person or via a report. Input from the interpreter may involve information regarding communication strategies and progress related to the child's use of the interpreter.
-Supporting student accommodations and equipment needs while working with a team of consultants and educators.
-Providing/assisting in instruction to hearing students, staff and parents as requested in regard to sign language, deafness, Deaf culture, and interpreting.
-Providing interpretation for school functions outside of the classroom, extracurricular activities and parent meetings when requested in advance. (Compensation by the school district for interpreting services provided outside of normal school hours to be agreed upon in advance.)
-Maintaining professional standards as delineated in the Code of Ethics of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

Successful applicants will have energy, a commitment to inclusion, excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working as part of a team. This position is a classified position on Wage Grade 6 with a 191-day contract at a rate of $26.28 to $38.28 per hour depending on experience. This position will follow the WSESU school year calendar but will include opportunities for summer/extended school year work.
