The Hawbridge School - Upper School

School Counselor Position for Grades 8-12

Position Summary:

The Upper School Counselor will support the social, emotional, and academic needs of 8-12 grade students at the Hawbridge School. The Upper School Counselor will be responsible for maintaining an upper school counseling program and will work with the Lower School Counselor to create a comprehensive and cohesive K-12 counseling program.


Master’s degree in School Counseling or Social Work
Experience in an educational setting with High School students
Experience working with students with learning disabilities preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Some knowledge of PowerSchool preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ideal applicants will have experience with high school counseling programs and be well-versed in topics including college admissions preparation, conflict resolution, diversity, and restorative justice. Strong relationships and a sense of community are at the heart of the Hawbridge School’s mission and vision. Our School Counselors are an integral part in creating and maintaining that community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the mission and vision of the Hawbridge School through weekly student/parent meetings.
Collaborate with teachers, administration, parents/caregivers, and the local community to support the needs of students.
Guide students through the course selection process.
Assist students with college and career planning.
Host Career and College nights.
Create behavior plans for students and assist students in meeting goals.
Serve as the 504 Coordinator for students in grades 8-12.
Provide individual, small group and crisis counseling as needed.
Provide parent support and assist families with referrals to community resources.
Work in collaboration with the Lower School Counselor to establish a comprehensive counseling program for the School.
Assist with PowerSchool administrative duties.
Provide tours and answer questions to prospective families.
Monitor attendance and grades, and establish interventions as needed.
