Job Description

The Learning Community, a K-8 public school, is currently seeking a One-on-One Aide to join our dynamic team. This full-time team member will provide one-on-one support to an elementary and/or middle grades student in a classroom setting. The role includes providing student with social-emotional support as well as some academic support when challenges arise, communicating with team and family. Background and experience in mental health counseling a plus. Position starts immediately.

Job Description:

•Assists student in all areas of instruction including daily routines, academics, specials, therapy groups, and any other appropriate classroom and school activity.
•Assists student with mobility, toileting, and special classes. Fosters student independence, socialization, and self-esteem.
•Assists in adapting instructional activities and materials according to learner needs and individualized programs.
•Follows through on directions and student program requirements. Responds appropriately to input and direction from teachers and other team members.
•Follows written and oral directions and instructions, seeking clarification when needed.
•Assists student with bus arrival and departure.
•Follows all safety procedures and guidelines with adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, special standers, walkers, strollers, and other pieces of equipment, seeking guidance when needed.
•Acts as a good role model by always maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and conversation in front of students and visitors. Always maintains a positive and cooperative attitude.
•Is prepared and punctual for school, meetings, and trainings as required.
•Performs other related tasks as required.

Requirements:

•Completed a teacher assistant pre-employment training program approved by RIDE.
•OR a TA certification from another state.
•OR have at least an associate’s and have completed training consistent with teacher assistant program standards.
•OR be willing to complete above requirements ASAP.
•Experience in a similar position and/or previous experience with children with special abilities preferred.
