Position Responsibilities
?Reports to & collaborates with Director of Teaching & Learning.
?Oversight of all state reporting and compliance for Special Education.
?Directs and monitors the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and 504 accommodation processes.
?Provides strong leadership in the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Special Education team, including observation of professional practice.
?Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
?Provides direct coaching to the special education teachers.
?Provides direct service to students and conducts evaluations, as needed.
?Understands the role of an MTSS framework & leads the team-based MTSS process.
?Coordinates with Special Education staff on the selection of curriculum for students who receive services to ensure alignment with progress monitoring, academic curriculum, and growth measurements.
?Develops and monitors the overall vision for Special Education in collaboration with all stakeholders including administration, parents, certified staff.
?Coordinates and facilitates meetings for Special Education staff.
?Analyzes research, and interprets assessment results, to make recommendations for sound assessment instruments to be used in the identification of special education students and to assist in progress monitoring services & programming.
?Establishes clear lines of communication at all levels and has a proactive approach to communication with staff and families.
?Supports coordination and management of student records for out-of-district placements, newly enrolled and withdrawn students, and transition to high school.
?Investigates and resolves formal complaints for students with disabilities.
?Attends all Board meetings and prepares reports deemed necessary for the head of school and/or the Board.
?Maintains and respects the confidentiality of staff and student information.
?Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
