Y Early Childhood Programs offer developmentally appropriate activities in nurturing, respectful environments, while meeting the needs of our families. The Y Early Childhood Program has been serving the children and families of the UVM Medical Center for over twenty years. Currently, we are hiring a full-time Teacher Assistant or Associate to work in our Infant/Toddler Program located at 405 Main Street in Winooski. Position based on education and experience.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with children between the ages six weeks to two years of age and support their daily routines through the communication and understanding of the families served. In this role, you may assist in planning developmentally appropriate activities for the infants and toddlers, including same level engagement and on the floor play.

Other responsibilities include:


-Develop and maintain professional and positive relationships with families respecting any differences in family backgrounds or parenting styles.
-Communicate with parents/guardians through daily interaction and communication to promote an understanding of each child's growth and development.
-Maintain observation-based records for children to participate in two family conferences per year.
-Supervise and develop Teacher Associates through team goal-setting, feedback, and participation in an evaluation process.
-Maintain a neat and organized classroom and participate in occasional center cleaning duties.
-Ensure safety at all times in the building by reporting failures and improvements to the Director.
-Ensure that all Vermont Childcare Licensing requirements and regulations are maintained at all times. Maintain a NAEYC classroom portfolio and update documents regularly.

Minimum Requirements:


Must be 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED and meet one (1) of the following qualifications:

-A Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level One (1) or Two (2) Certificate; or
-A current CDA (Child Development Associate); or
-State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphasizes child development or early childhood education; or
-Completion of the Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals course or the Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate; or
-Successful completion of three (3) college credit course in child or human development or school age care and education.
