POSITION OVERVIEW

Watertown Middle School seeks a qualified educator to serve as a Long Term Substitute Geography/Ancient Civilizations Grade 6 Social Studies teacher approximately March 29, 2021 through the end of the 20/21 school year. The position requires maintaining a full teaching load, with attendant responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
  • We seek a collaborative teacher who inspires students and who works effectively and creatively with their grade 6 colleague in Social Studies and colleagues in other disciplines and support professionals.
  • Candidates should be passionate about teaching, have strong academic knowledge and facility with the Social Studies curriculum and be able to work well with middle school students.
  • Appropriate MA certification in middle school History/Social Studies required.
  • Candidate should possess both strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidate should fulfill the WMS mission of teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning and to consider multiple perspectives.
  • The successful candidate will invest in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, content support and/or enrichment, department meetings, and team meetings.
  • Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment, and integrity as well as effective interaction with a diverse population of students and faculty, is essential.
