Job Description
POSITION: Learning Specialist
REPORTS TO: Program Director
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The Learning Specialist provides direct services to identified students within four Therapeutic Day Schools in kindergarten through age 22. The Learning Specialist is responsible for providing instruction to students in a manner that maximizes student learning and allows the student as much access to the general curriculum as possible.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilize Wilson Reading systems in compliance with students’ individual education plans.
Administer academic and achievement testing to students ages 5-22 in four different school programs.
Uses grouping strategies to ensure students learn objectives of the lesson (e.g. individual, small groups, teacher-student) and effectively manage each group of students while providing for a variety of learning styles and ability levels.
Ensures that appropriate accommodations are provided as identified in a student's IEP.
Uses various methods to engage students in learning and understanding the content/subject matter, including skill building, conceptual understanding, applying strategies, critical thinking and real-world applications.
Proficient and competent in report writing with the ability to synthesize information and present information to a multidisciplinary team.
Competent in goal writing and IEP documentation.
Ability to differentiate instruction to include individual, group, and whole class setting.
Experience with behavior management and PBIS.
Ability to address and work with a wide variety of learning differences.
Energetic and flexible candidate to work in a therapeutic day school with a high needs population.
Additional tasks at the discretion of the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in the area of certification.
Certification and valid teaching license recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Special Education.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and spoken.
Ability to relate well to others and ability to motivate students within a unique educational setting.
Ability to meet NCLB definition of Highly Qualified by demonstrating subject matter competency preferred.
At least 2-5 years of experience working with students with diverse learning styles preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-Time school year (plus summer programming)
SALARY SCHEDULE: TBD and based on qualifications, skill, and experience.
