Essex North Shore is seeking an English Language Arts Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION
ENGLISH TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Licensed, in English 9-12 by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, to include Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement;
2.Meets all Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher;
3.Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field;
4.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults;
5.Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Map each grade curriculum to the State Framework.
2. Provides learning experiences in English, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement.
3. Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate;
4. Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn;
5. Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
6. Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements to further their licensure or for re-licensure;
7. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of the English department, high school, and school district, attends all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed;
8. Provides review and reinforcement of new concepts; supports students in the completion of their assigned tasks.
9. Demonstrate knowledge of students’ IEPs, as well as the accommodations and modifications necessary for student success; modify assignments, tests, and quizzes in collaboration with special educators, if required.
10. Develop resources for students to be successful, such as models, graphic organizers, and copies of class notes, video clips, demonstrations, etc..
11. Collaborate with teachers in the Career, Technical, and Agricultural programs to facilitate learning activities that are cross-curricular and project-based.
12. Provide content support outside of the general education classroom, as necessary.
13. Respond to any correspondence, both oral and written, that comes from a parent or guardian.
14. Accept additional responsibilities as may be required under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

    Job Requirements

    • Candidates must be appropriately licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
      Satisfactory CORI and SAFIS results
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
