TITLE:

SLIFE Coordinator

2020-2021 School Year

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

To teach and coordinate all aspects of the SLIFE program. Provide leadership and expertise in the area of SLIFE/ELLs to support building administration and staff to meet the needs of the students.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in ESL/TBE/ELL (All Levels) with SEI Endorsement is required. 

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

At least a Bachelor’s Degree in the area of major study. Thorough knowledge of contemporary theory and practice in second language acquisition, cultural proficiency, and bilingual practices. Three years of successful teaching experience in a bilingual and/or English Language Learner (ELL) program with expertise in curriculum development and implementation. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers. Experience providing professional development to teachers. Experience with standards-based assessment and effective use of student data. Knowledge of SLIFE student needs and familiarity with DESE Guidance. Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred.

Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned;  and to use instructional technology appropriately and works with students to facilitate their use of instructional technology.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all compliance and day-to-day aspects of the SLIFE programming which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Identification of current and incoming students
    • Completing extended surveys and additional assessments
    • Teaching classes as assigned
    • Organizing and facilitating SLIFE team meetings as needed to create Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs), monitor progress, and exit students
    • Create and revise district protocols, forms, and procedures to meet DESE requirements
    • Outreach to appropriate community agencies for student and family support, funding, field trips, etc
  • To provide professional development for administration and teachers
    • Meet with teachers to plan units of instruction and create cross-curricular units when appropriate
    • Demonstrate materials to teachers as appropriate
    • Visit classrooms of SLIFE students on a regular basis to discern teachers’/students’ needs
    • Coordinate with school data teams to gather, analyze, and communicate results and trends to appropriate staff and administration
    • Design and instruct PD and/or workshops that support the curriculum areas and improve instruction for ELLs and SLIFEs.
  • To conduct curriculum study, implementation, and or revision in ESL and the specific curriculum areas as they relate to SLIFE/ELL education.
    • Establish, chair, and/or represent the needs of ELLs/SLIFEs in district and school-wide curriculum committees
    • Meet with sales representatives as appropriate to explore and examine new curriculum materials
    • Research instructional materials and strategies appropriate for ELLs/SLIFEs
    • Make presentations to administrators and staff concerning SEI strategies and WIDA Standards for ELLs/SLIFE
  • Be available, adaptable, and communicative in dealing with teachers, administrators, parents, and children.
  • Collaborate with school administration and staff to accomplish the assessment needs set by DESE.
  • Acquire and share knowledge of current research methodology and practice, SEI effective strategies and techniques, current educational technology trends, texts, and materials.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by school and district supervisors

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

 

REPORTS TO:  

Building Principal with input from Director/Assistant Director of Bilingual Education

The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract. Please note that the District reserves the right to transfer all personnel among buildings on an as-needed basis to serve the best interests of all students as long as this does not conflict with the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.
