Open Position: Director, Williamstown Community Preschool
Founded in 1972, Williamstown Community Preschool (WCP) serves the needs of toddler, preschool, and school-age children and their families in Northern Berkshire County, Massachusetts. From age 15 months to 8 years, children find a safe, caring environment at WCP where they can grow, learn, and thrive. WCP is a private, non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors.
At WCP, we believe in offering a rich, developmentally appropriate learning environment that focuses on child-centered, child-directed activities. We seek to create opportunities for children to experience, explore, and gain an understanding of the world and the people around them. We encourage children to develop cooperative social skills by setting appropriate limits, by offering positive choices, and by helping children develop problem-solving skills. We promote a sense of self-worth in children by providing an atmosphere of trust and respect with regard to the children’s feelings, skills, choices, similarities, and differences. We are dedicated to working closely with families to meet the needs of their children.
WCP seeks an experienced early childhood educator to serve as its new Director and carry this mission and educational philosophy into all preschool programs and activities. As school administrator, the Director ensures a professional atmosphere and oversees all aspects of school operations. The Director works with a 13-member teaching staff to create safe and stimulating learning environments where all children can thrive. As primary community liaison, the Director facilitates the development of positive and supportive relationships between and among staff, parents, and children, and communicates about WCP to a variety of internal and external audiences. This position reports directly to the board of directors. Above all, these roles require the Director to demonstrate vision, expertise, and commitment to helping children in all early childhood developmental stages.

      General Operations
      Accountable for the general supervision of the preschool and for the establishment of policies concerning its operation and programming
      Knowledge and ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding a Preschool Center - EEC regulations, local and state regulations.
      Maintaining of annual applications to Williamstown Community Chest and Early Education and Care (EEC).
      Children and Parents
      Maintains accessibility and regular contact with families through Brightwheel (school communication app), emails and newsletters.
      Manages enrollment: recruitment, tours, intake, openings, wait lists, service referrals and the associated record keeping and scheduling.
      Responsible for ensuring age-appropriate curriculum is being taught in all 6 classrooms in conjunction with the Education Coordinator.
      Promote an environment which encourages individualized child growth through collaboration and communication with child and parent(s).
      Staff Supervision and Support
      Oversee staff professional development through provision of training and training opportunities.
      Document needs for MA state licensure.
      Responsible for ensuring personal and professional leadership growth through staff meetings, development and annual evaluations.
      Maintaining a positive working environment and relationships within the staff.
      Responsible for the recruitment, employment, training, terminating, and organizing of staff.
      Daily management of appropriate staffing coverage/schedule.
      Financial
      Maintain a financial plan that ensures resources necessary to meet operating costs for the care and supervision of children.
      Enrollment projections
      Purchase supplies and equipment
      Manage subsidy programs such as providing financial documentation and monthly assessments for MA EEC.
      Oversee payroll, billing, taxes and documents for annual audit.

      Job Skills and Requirements
      Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
      Experience as Preschool Director preferred but not required.
      General knowledge of federal, state, and local laws regarding employment practices.
      Must have completed 15 hours of health and safety training pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 1596.866.
