Job Description

Position: Nurse Assistant

Qualifications:
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
Good interpersonal skills required for student interaction
Basic nursing skills
Secretarial, computer and internet knowledge

Reports to: School Based Nurse, School Principal and Asst. Superintendent of Student Support Services

Evaluated by: School Principal and Asst. Superintendent of Student Support Services

Performance Responsibilities:
Duties may include any of the following but are not limited to them:
Basic first aid
Ability to triage students (distinguish between potential emergencies and illness) in order to keep office open during lunch and emergencies when nurse is away from office.
Coverage for office when nurse is in consultation or meetings (IEP’s 504 etc.)
Student medication administration as needed
Enter immunizations on all new students, maintain immunizations on all other students
Mail out and follow-up with return of care plans for students with chronic illnesses.
Mail out and follow up with return of interval history forms on all students
Monitor and ensure all students have signed and returned emergency cards. Follow-up with letters home as necessary.
Assist preschool staff with toileting needs, diaper changes etc.
Attendance calls
Coordination, planning and administration of all screenings; enter results when screenings complete.
Enter all physicals and pertinent medical information in both health and student information programs.
Maintain a professional demeanor and subscribe to office ethics of privacy and confidentiality of all health information pertaining to students and staff.
Assist in design and maintenance of nurse’s web page.
Assist in ordering and maintaining supplies

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Be physically and emotionally capable of carrying-out responsibilities and duties in a busy, computerized environment. This position requires sustained physical activity such as sitting at a desk for several hours a day, hand/wrist movement as in writing or using a computer keyboard/mouse. Other activities may include moderate to frequent exertion in body movements such as standing, walking, reaching, bending and twisting.
Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents and to use a computer.
