Job Description

To provide leadership of the District's special education program and services, as well as the daily operational functions of the special education department.

This job will report to the Director of Student Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Establish and communicate the district philosophy of the least restrictive environment for serving special education students in a COVID and Post-COVID environment.

2. Assist with the implementation of the long-range and short-range plans for achieving special education goals and objectives in alignment with the districts’ CPS/CCRSD strategic plan.

3. Coordinate special education services for all Pre-K – Post Secondary students with disabilities and ensure that students have access to the Massachusetts Common Core State Standards and functional academics.

4. Ensure a systematic and consistent approach to the development of IEPs that are written to meet federal and state standards.

5. Collaborate with the principals, assistant principals, and team chairs in the transition of students from the pre-k to the elementary level, elementary level to the middle school level and middle school level to the high school level, and high school to post-secondary level.

7. Build capacity within the two districts to support students, teachers, and parents through a COVID and Post-COVID environment.

8. Manage complex and challenging cases by maintaining effective parent, staff, advocate, and outside evaluator contact.

9. Work collaboratively with the elementary, middle, and high school principals to provide in-building technical assistance and to develop and implement high-quality professional development for all special education staff.

10. Help to develop in-district specialized programming by working with the director of student services, building administration, and staff in both a COVID and Post-COVID environment.

11. Work with the building administrators and director of student services to ensure consistency, cohesion, and coordination of practices across the two districts.

12. Meet regularly with the team chairpersons, special education staff at the building level, and with student support specialists to guide all in current DESE regulations as they relate to Special Education, COVID compensatory services, and Special Education Law.

13. Assist with the planning and preparation for the Tiered Focus Monitoring (TFM) and Mid-Cycle TFM by implementing and supporting the procedures as outlined in the special education policy and procedure manual.

14. Coordinate budget requests and costs with individual schools relative to instructional programs and staffing during the school year. This includes understanding what are COVID related services and Post COVID services.

15. Maintain a permanent inventory of assistive technology equipment available to students with disabilities and all equipment and materials purchased.

16. Extensive knowledge of Folletts ASPEN, Microsoft suite, Google, and other systems used within the districts.

17. Train and support special educators in the special education process, compliance, and laws that align with the district goals.

18. Perform other duties as directed by the director of student services.

    • This position is a 185 in-person position aligned with the teacher's contract.

      Salary to commensurate with teacher's contract and experience
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
