Job Description
The Center School, a Full-Year (12 month) private Special Education day school located in Holyoke, MA, seeks candidates for a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) opening.
The Center School provides a unique and rewarding opportunity to serve students with a wide variety of moderate to severe special needs. We assist schools, agencies, families & communities and provide considerable resources to staff in order to meet the needs of individual students. Staff participate in such activities as therapeutic horseback riding, pet therapy, swimming, community outings, field trips, life skills & vocational activities and enjoy collaborative work with a dedicated team of professionals.
The SLPA provides services to classrooms as a communication specialist, by way of (1) adding to our curriculum learning that reflects the therapeutic language requirement of our students, (2) trains and mentors Interventionist staff to implement the curriculum, and (3) teaches these skills in a classroom setting.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provides mentoring and training for all staff delivering communication services in the school.
- Collaborates with Teachers and other allied health staff to provide comprehensive and appropriate services to students.
- Maintains daily progress notes on students.
- Prepares daily lessons under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist.
- Implements treatment plans under the supervision of a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist, including use of the school’s swimming pool as a therapeutic environment.
- Attends school meetings and trainings and maintains a commitment to professional development.
- Plans and provides training for school staff as needed or requested.
- Adheres to professional license standards while upholding the school model of treatment.
- Maintains professional licensure and participates in conferences, workshops or other courses for professional development.

Job Requirements

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Disorders or a related field and licensure by the MA Division of Professional Licensure as a Registered Speech Language Pathology Assistant.
