The Hawbridge School – Lower School
Middle Grades Teacher Positions (6 and 7)

Note: Multiple positions are available in Grade 6 and Grade 7 for the 2021-2022 school year.

Position Summary:
•plan engaging, developmentally appropriate and content focused instruction
•facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills
•implement curriculum and connect instruction to the school mission and vision
•Initiate, facilitate, and fairly moderate classroom discussions or activities
•monitor student progress by gathering and analyzing data
•address student-specific learning and behavioral needs
•manage a flexible and safe learning environment
•communicate feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress toward goals

Qualifications:
1.A bachelor’s degree in education or a closely related field from an accredited program of study is required.
2.NC Middle Grades (6-9) certification is preferred. NC Middle School teaching licensure (with dual certification in content areas) is strongly desired.
3.Successful experience teaching in the middle school classroom is preferred, but not required.
4.Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
5.The ability to coach athletics or lead a club is desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1.Knowledge of best instructional practices and educational pedagogy, as well as the ability to differentiate instruction based on individual student learning needs.
2.Knowledge of middle school (6-7) curriculum and concepts.
3.Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the ability to make data-based decisions.
4.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
5.Ability to effectively use instructional technology systems and relevant software applications.
6.Ability to organize and execute the essential duties and responsibilities of a teacher.
7.Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with students and parents/guardians.
8.Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
9.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with team members, staff members, and administrators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A.Develop and administer curriculum consistent with school goals and objectives.
B.Manage an organized and safe classroom environment that is conducive for individual and small group instruction, and student learning.
C.Develop lessons and instructional materials that provide students with authentic learning experiences.
D.Assess student learning (ongoing), and differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs.
E.Use instructional technology to support instructional goals and engage students in the learning process.
F.Teach responsible citizenship and emphasize students’ character development.
G.Acquire the professional development necessary to maintain licensure (if applicable).
H.Maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping (e.g. grades, attendance)
I.Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure regular and effective communication with parents/guardians.
J.Set high expectations for student conduct that supports a positive and productive classroom learning environment.
K.Collaborate with team members to evaluate and assess curriculum, and actively engage in data-driven discussions and decision-making.
L.Supervise students in lessons and activities that take place outside of the classroom.
M.Administer standardized tests, as directed, in accordance with NC testing programs.
N.Other duties as assigned.

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Environment:
The Middle Grades Teacher (6 – 7) performs most work at the Lower School. The work requires standing and sitting while actively monitoring whole group and small group instruction (both inside and outside of the school building), lesson planning, administering and grading assessments, attending meetings, and engaging in professional development. Light physical work may require exertion of approximately 20 pounds of force.
