 Position Title:  Grounds Maintenance Technician                      FLSA:   NON-EXEMPT

The Grounds Maintenance Technician performs a wide variety of grounds and sports field maintenance on a 67-acre campus.  Work assignments include safe and proficient equipment operation, pruning, irrigation, gardening, mowing, minor repairs, integrated pest control, waste removal, reporting of conditions, and other work as required. Performs work as designated essential personnel for inclement or extreme weather.



The primary focus of this position is grounds maintenance with emphasis on beds, mowing, arbor care, irrigation, roofs and gutters, and hard surfaces maintenance on the campus.   

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision, transitioning between tasks efficiently and logically
  • Show initiative when executing maintenance plans and make daily operational decisions when Grounds Supervisor or Lead are unavailable to provide guidance
  • Follow safe work practices and actively contribute to the safety of self, coworkers, and campus users
  • Effectively and safely operate and maintain tools and equipment of the landscape trade, including but not limited to snow removal equipment, tractors, mowers, golf carts
  • Maintain accurate reports and records of maintenance projects completed
  • Monitor irrigation schedules and watering requirements and maintain irrigation systems
  • Timely and prompt communication with team members, supervisor, and school community regarding work assignments, problem areas and attendance
  • Clear hard surfaces including pavement, sidewalks, and roofs; duties are performed in all weather and include clearing debris, snow, and ice
  • Drives vehicles between campus areas, to pick up supplies, or go to landfill
  • Create a positive experience for the community through professional, courteous behavior and creative problem resolution
  • Work cooperatively within the Grounds team and as a member of the Facilities team
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required

This role requires daily interactions with facilities team and frequent contact with faculty, staff and students, with occasional contact with parents, trustees, alumni, and visitors.



  • At least two years’ experience in landscaping or equivalent field
  • Must possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License and have safe driving record to meet school standards



  • This position does not supervise other employees.

  • Work is performed primarily outside with frequent exposure to weather conditions, varying degrees of noise, and temperature extremes.
  • Frequent operation of machinery such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers, tractors, etc.
  • Requires mobility to traverse campus either by foot or mobilized machine
    • This includes moving up and down stairs or hills between facilities multiple times throughout the workday
  • Regularly ascends, descends ladders to perform work on roofs, for arbor care, or other maintenance
  • Frequent lifting and moving of materials up to 60 lbs. related to machinery, landscaping (e.g. pruned branches, bushes, mowed grass, etc.), fencing
  • Frequent bending, squatting, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and kneeling
  • Must be able to follow guidelines for safety and use protective equipment as necessary
  • Carries work phone during shift


Schedule:  This position is year-round, full time at 40 hours a week.  Specific days and hours will be determined by the Grounds Supervisor. Requires occasional mandatory evening and weekend overtime work.
