Job Description

Archbishop Neale School is seeking a spiritual and educational leader for their PK-8 school. Archbishop Neale School is a private Catholic elementary school located in La Plata, Maryland. We provide a two-track system for grades Pre-K through 8 and our curriculum is centered on the Archdiocese of Washington graded course of study. Departments are organized as follows: Primary (Grades Pre-K – 3); Intermediate (Grades 4-5); Junior High (Grades 6-8). Grades 5-8 are departmentalized. We are fully accredited, and our teachers are certified by the State of Maryland in their specific areas. As a consolidated school, we serve Catholic students from seven parishes. We also have many non-Catholics as well as students from several outlying parishes throughout Southern Maryland. Since 1927, parents have entrusted their children to ANS because they are assured of an excellent, Archdiocesan standards based academic curriculum that encompasses the Catholic faith and values, and is delivered in a safe, caring environment.

  • Position Type: Full-time
  • Positions Available: 1
  • Job Category : Administrator > Principal/Dean/Head of School
  • Location Description

Today, over 27,000 children attend 96 Catholic schools in the archdiocese. Our schools serve as communities of faith and service, fully developing each student as a child of God through the four pillars of Catholic schools:

    Catholic Identity
Catholic identity is intrinsic to our schools and the reason for their success. Our mission is to educate all students in a Christian environment, welcoming children of all faiths. We promote the value of the individual while encouraging mutual respect through our Catholic faith and traditions.

    Academic Excellence
With a strong educational foundation and rigorous academic programs, our students are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of a changing multicultural society in the light of Christ’s teachings. Our schools are fully accredited and all teachers are certified in their specific areas. We are committed to academic excellence as reflected in the high test scores, placement and achievements of our students.

Our schools are geographically accessible to as many students as possible. Our Catholic schools are strategically located to allow the reasonable hope that most children will be able to get to a Catholic school in a given accessible area. Within our schools, the programs we offer meet the needs of a wide variety of students. Our students are able to learn, immersed in a nurtured and safe environment.

Careful planning has been undertaken to keep the cost of Catholic education within the reach of families. The tuition assistance program is one of the ways that the Archdiocese of Washington helps many children realize the dream of a Catholic education. Over the past four years, the tuition assistance program has increased from offering $800,000 to over $5 million.

"Our children today, as they grow up in an ever more complex world, need to be firmly grounded in knowledge of the authentic faith the Church professes so they can be prepared to live a full, happy and holy life in communion with Christ."

~Cardinal Donald Wuerl, from his pastoral letter Catholic Education: Looking to the future with confidence Learn more about us...

Guiding Principles for the Schools in the
    Archdiocese of Washington

Catholic schools function at several interlocking levels within the educational ministry of the Church. As academic institutions, they enable students to acquire skills, knowledge, occupational competence and civic responsibility. As Christian institutions committed to the teachings of the Catholic Church, Catholic schools prepare students to respond in faith to Jesus Christ and to understand his message, to view human existence in terms of divinely appointed goals, to follow moral standards of conduct and to achieve integrity of character. As Catholic communities of faith, schools deepen the ties between pastor, priests, faculty, parents and students. Building community in all areas of lifke, Catholic schools foster a spirit of service to humanity and a feeling of fellowship transcending individual difference.

Catholic schools seek primarily to serve all Catholic parents who seek Catholic education for their children. Because the ultimate responsibility for education rests with parents, schools welcome parent participation in policy decisions through formal channels and encourage informal communication at all levels in such matters as personnel, curriculum and finances. Pastors, administrators and teachers cooperate by fulfilling their respective responsibilities toward the school program. All parties together assess effectiveness in relation to the progress and needs of each student. To the community at large, Catholic schools represent a successful educational alternative, striving for academic excellence without sacrificing Catholic values. The development of each individual student is fostered through innovation and effective use of resources.

All employees and volunteers are required, as a condition of employment and acceptance of volunteer services, to teach and exemplify the guiding principles set forth above and all terms set forth in the Application for Employment in an Archdiocesan Catholic School.
