iSTEM Teacher Job Description:

Responsible for integrating STEM processes in classrooms K-12.  This position reports to the Coordinator of science and is responsible for developing, collaborating, implementing, and modeling STEM practices that enhance instruction for all students through engaging integrated content with meaningful and authentic experiences in all subjects and grade levels.

 

iSTEM Teacher Responsibilities

  • Works directly with students and teachers to design, develop, and model STEM lessons
  • Employs a variety of instructional technology, tools, and techniques, identified as best practice in STEM learning to promote student learning, creativity, and collaboration in STEM practices that incorporate multiple disciplines
  • Identifies and evaluates innovative and appropriate new technologies and methods that can be used meaningfully to enhance student learning SAMR, TPACK, etc.
  • Participates in the research and development of curriculum, instruction, assessment services, activities, and products related to K-12 STEM
  • Collaborates with teachers, students, and site-based administrators across Science, Math and Technology to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of STEM programs, projects, and initiatives
  • Develop and present differentiated training for teachers and school staff in a wide variety of instructional applications that enhance STEM pedagogy, technology integration and student learning
  • Assist with the development of digital resources for instructional use including interactive items, curriculum tools, assessment items, online modules and courses based on best practice in education
  • Assess software and hardware issues, implement basic solutions where possible, and escalate repairs to the TechSupport group when appropriate (10 minute rule)
  • Recognizes the diverse needs and abilities in student learning and develops scaffolds for all students to engage in meaningful STEM with grade level teachers and enrichment programs
  • Support teachers’ involvement, empowerment, responsibility, and innovation in school improvement activities relating to STEM
  • Fosters partnerships in STEM with academic institutions, business and industry partners, community groups, and informal science institutions
  • Develops and implements tools for facilitation and monitoring of division STEM goals and initiatives
  • Participates in short- and long-term goal setting to support the Division Strategic Plan, as well as the planning process and performance measures within the office, department, and division.

                          

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge and practice of Culturally Responsive Teaching strategies required and bilingual in English and another World Language preferred. 

Virtual teaching/learning experience is preferred.  Knowledge and experience of Zoom, CANVAS, instructional technology and virtual meeting platforms are preferred. Must be detail oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:    Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in a STEM area preferred.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
