The Schwartz School at Meeting Street operates a year-round school program, approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a special education school, designed to educate and support students ages 3 to 22 years old with cognitive, developmental and physical disabilities, and medically complex conditions. We have a long-standing reputation in the community as a provider of exceptional educational and therapeutic services for children with special needs. Our compassionate and professional staff includes licensed teachers, licensed therapists in the areas of speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and sensory integration/sensory processing, nurses and related paraprofessionals.

About this Role:

Meeting Street is seeking a passionate Special Education Teacher for our unique program. The ideal candidate will create an individualized learning environment emphasizing functional academics that stimulates and motivates students to work to their best potential, while and facilitating interactions that provide opportunity for emotional, social and cognitive growth.

Responsibilities include managing the classroom daily, providing individualized group instruction, developing and implementing IEP goals, maintains data records on each student’s progress towards IEP goals, curriculum design, student assessment through progress reports, performing alternative MCAS assessments, supervision of classroom staff and ongoing parent contact.

Key Skills:

•Creating adaptable lesson plans to meet each student's unique needs
•Developing and implementing all aspects of individual IEPs
•Partnership with therapists and clinicians to implement an integrated educational and therapeutic model with content specific objectives
•Facilitate interactions that promote opportunities social, emotional and cognitive growth
•Knowledge of standard and alternative educational assessment practices
•Demonstrates positive guidance techniques
•Effective behavior management techniques
•Ability to communicate sensitively to students and their families
•Direct supervision of Teacher Assistants and other classroom staff
•Comfortable in providing instruction and feedback to other team members

COVID Response: Our smaller program and class sizes have helped us to be successful in creating a safe educational environment in these uncertain times. We are currently offering full in-person school, with up to 50% of our students voluntarily participating in distance learning. We are committed adhering to all CDC guidelines, including rigorous cleaning procedure, providing additional PPE and sanitizing gear to employees, maintaining contract tracing sign-in for all areas, and traffic pathways throughout the building, and more.


•Bachelor's Degree or higher in Special Education
•MA DESE Special Education License required
•MA DESE Severe Disabilities endorsement strongly preferred, Moderate Disabilities endorsement acceptable with willingness to pursue Severe Disabilities endorsement (tuition reimbursement offered)
