Job Description
The Doctor Franklin Perkins School provides an exceptional educational program for residential and day students in grades K-12 with educational, social and emotionally complex disorders. Our campus provides a beautiful setting and environment to explore. We are dedicated to the provision of exceptional academic, social, emotional, and behavioral supports with related services. You are supported by and gain experience from a highly skilled multidisciplinary team that includes Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapists, Clinicians and Student Services in the educational setting.
This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), 12-month benefit position
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for the creation of a differentiated curriculum, instruction of content, and, most importantly, supporting students’ ability to access the academic program at the Doctor Franklin Perkins School. You will also implement grade-level curricula to meet academic standards based on the Mass. Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core Curriculum. Requires ability to recognize the unique qualities of each student and incorporate them into appropriate lessons and/or projects.
Requirements:
-State of MA. Special Ed Moderate License
-Bachelor’s Degree in education, special education or related field
-Master’s Degree in special education is preferred
-Knowledge of evidence-based inclusive practices that meet the needs of social/emotional learners
-Knowledge of a range of special education interventions
-Understanding of behavioral principles
-Strong leadership and team-building skills

Location Description
We serve children and adolescents with a range of psychiatric, social, emotional, and executive functioning issues. These include: depression; bi-polar disorder; attention-deficit disorder; post traumatic stress disorder; reactive attachment disorder; and childhood schizophrenia. Residents may have other co-existing challenges including substance abuse, eating disorders, history of sexual trauma, physical abuse, and cutting.
Perkins also serves children with mild to moderate neurological impairment in which the choice of treatment is a focus on learning and social development.
Individuals with Asperger Syndrome and Nonverbal Language Disorders
Perkins offers two twelve-month programs for children, adolescents and young adults with Asperger Syndrome. Our program for children ages 12 to 18 years old is specially designed to provide serene living environments which include social and activity areas and single bedrooms in a beautiful homelike setting. In addition to attending school Monday through Friday, residents are provided a range of clinical, social, and recreational programs to support the development of interpersonal skills and independence.
Post-Secondary Program for Individuals with Asperger Syndrome
Perkins offers a unique program for young adults 18 years and older who have completed high school and are interested in college or career. This program provides these individuals with the right combination of social support, independence, clinical and psychiatric services, daily management, tutoring, and transportation, to help young adults reach their personal goals.
