SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

2020-21 School Year

 

 Charlottesville City Schools is looking for Virtual Substitute Teachers to serve our students! 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitates culturally responsive classroom instruction to students as outlined in the lesson plans provided by the teacher
  • Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
  • Maintains a professional standard and appearance as an example to students.
  • Follows the virtual instructional schedule and/or remains at school the entire day/assignment, unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, colleagues, equipment, materials, grounds and facilities. Practices COVID 19 mitigation.
  • Maintains rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibilities.  Communicates effectively with parents/guardians when needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must have a minimum of a high school diploma and has successfully completed a minimum of 60 hours of college/university credit.  Must be culturally responsive, detail oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

 

Virtual instructional experience is preferred.  Knowledge and experience of Zoom, CANVAS, instructional technology and virtual meeting platforms are preferred. Training will be provided on virtual instruction and platforms, system databases.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
