TITLE:NAVAJO/DINE STUDIES TEACHER


SUPERVISED BY:School Principal

SUPERVISES:Students as assigned

TERMTen (10) months:

SALARY:Salary is to be determined by district pay scale.

POSITION GOAL:To provide instruction to facilitate learning which enables all students to reach academic success. Must display high knowledge of age/subject appropriate educational materials, curriculum standards, classroom discipline and behavior management methods. Demonstrate skill in written and oral communications. Demonstrate skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff and parents. A committed and effective highly qualified teacher is needed to transform the lives of Native American students. The teacher will support the mission of Sanders Unified Schools, district goals, procedures, and policy in the best interest of the District by professionally carrying out assigned duties and participating in the improvement and refinement of related areas.

1.Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
2.Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students based on the Arizona Department of Education Standards
3.Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students by modeling best practices, and instructional strategies which promote student learning.
4.Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
5.Uses testing data to differentiate and drive instruction, as well as encouraging students to set goals and maintain standards of classroom achievement and behavior.
6.Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
7.Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media including computer and related technology, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
8.Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, maintains documentation on computer and provides progress reports as required.
9.Meets with grade level/department levels and RTI and CST teams to formulate plans to increase student learning and Positive Behavior Supports.
10.Maintains discipline and behavior in the classroom and school environment in a fair and just manner.
11.Continues to grow professionally through professional staff development and/or university credit.
12. Identifies possible learning disabilities or at-risk behaviors of students for academic intervention (RTI) or referral for SPED testing (CST), by seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
13.Takes all precautions necessary to protect equipment, materials, and facilities under supervision.
14.Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records on computer and other district forms as required.
15.Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required to do so under reasonable terms.
16.Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), and cooperatively with department heads; evaluates their job performance.
17.Strives to maintain and improve professional competence, including computer and related skills.
18.Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
19.Performs other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    • QUALIFICATIONS:
      1.Must have a current Arizona Teachers certification in the correct grade level and subject area, must be fluent in the Navajo language and knowledgeable with Navajo culture.

      2.Must be Highly Qualified for the teacher’s assigned area.

      3. Must have or be able to obtain a fingerprint clearance card from the Department of Public Safety.

      4.Experience with the Arizona State Standards and Common Core Standards

      5.Must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of content area applying for.
