  • Licensed RN, 2 years of acute care experience         
  • Must have current healthcare provider CPR certificate
  • DESE school license preferred
  • Valid CORI
  • FIngerprints Required



  • Assessment, triage, and treatment of acute illness, injury, and emergencies
  • Medication administrationPerforms diversified maintenance and custodial duties under specific instructions and with a minimum of judgment required as to methods or procedures.
  • Communications with parents, faculty/staff, and healthcare providers as needed

Position Title: School Nurse

Department:          Student Services

Reports to:             SPED Director/Building Principal                                 


 Identifies the health needs of individual students within the school setting. The nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and managing an individual health care plan for a defined population.  Responsibilities include nursing services, collaboration with physicians, families and community agencies, health resources and maintenance of standards of professional care.


  • Responsible for emergency care and first aid.
  • Prepares and completes reports for any accident occurring to pupils while under the jurisdiction of the School Department.
  • Acts as a resource person concerning health issues of individual students.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes governing nursing and school health.
  • Utilize the nursing process, and collaborate with the parent/guardian, student, and supportive services, where appropriate, to develop and implement an individualized health care plan for a student aimed at improving health and educational status.
  • Respond to frequently encountered health issues, providing counseling and crisis intervention when required, including assessment, treatment and referral.
  • Act as the designated medical assessors, for individual students.
  •  Communicate the health status of pupils to the appropriate school personnel.
  • Attend team meetings for the development of IEP or 504 plans that require a medical component.
  • Assume responsibility for continuing own education and obtains consultation, supervision and peer review as needed.
  • Conducts those functions and activities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.


  • Registered Nurse and Nursing Certification
  • Massachusetts Department of Education Certification as a School Nurse
  • The individuals currently holding this position perform additional duties and additional duties may be assigned.
