Job Description

Uses the nursing process to identify students with health problems and provide comprehensive nursing care.
Assist in personal care of wheelchair dependent student.
Recommends exclusion and monitors readmission for students/staff with infectious or communicable diseases.
Makes appropriate referrals on vision, hearing, scoliosis screenings failures, and other health problems observed in students.
Collaborates with mental health staff related to students with social or emotional difficulties.
Available to students, families, teaching staff, administrative staff, and student support staff as a resource in matters pertaining to health.
Identifies health and safety hazards in the school and communicates with the senior school nurse, maintenance staff and Safety Department.
Demonstrates knowledge of safe and proper medication administration in accordance with state guidelines and school policy.
Communicates with families and staff about school health policies and ensures compliance with these policies.
Provides emergency care in cases of injury or sudden illness with proper referrals to Emergency Medical Services and area hospitals.
Assists with the maintenance of accurate health records on each student.
Ensures that all new students comply with immunization laws and report lack of compliance to the senior school nurse.
Handles confidential information ethically and professionally.
Assists in collecting statistical information to meet reporting requirements.
Participates in professional development programs.
Encourages and assists teachers to help students develop good health habits.
Assists with the management of school health equipment, materials, and supplies.
Coordinates specific school health projects as directed by the Senior School Nurse.
Communicates routinely with Senior School Nurse about health office activities.
Other nursing duties as assigned.

The Bromfield School founded in 1878 by Margaret Bromfield Blanchard boasts a student population of 710 in grades 6-12. The strong academic program includes core courses in mathematics, English, social studies, and science, as well as music, world languages, physical education and fine and applied arts.     Job Requirements

    • · Valid license as a professional registered nurse in the state of Massachusetts
      · Massachusetts Department of Education certification as a School Nurse
      · At least 1 year experience in pediatrics and/or school health preferred
      · At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
      · Bachelor’s Degree required
      · Citizenship, residency or work visa required
      · BLS/AED Certification required
    • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
