The Elementary School Assistant Principal ensures students in grades PK-5 are educated in personalized learning environments that support each student's academic and personal growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree with advanced graduate work in the area of educational administration preferred
At least five years teaching experience at elementary level, administrative experience preferred
Hold or be eligible for Rhode Island Principal certification

REPRESENTATION STATUS Individual Employment Contract with the District. 10-month position

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and support changes to curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Lead and support the creation of performance tasks, formative and summative assessments as well as task validation and calibration
  • Ensure the effective implementation of data systems and teams
  • Ensure our students are educated in personalized learning environments that support each student's academic and personal growth
  • Lead and support the integration of technology into a learning environment that supports learning in and out of the school building
  • Lead and support professional development that enhances the content and pedagogy of educators
  • Participate in selection process for new faculty/staff members
  • Orient new teachers/staff
  • Serve on school and district curriculum and instruction-related committees
  • Evaluate faculty and staff
  • Coordinate student orientation programs
  • Facilitate development of school schedule, program of studies, and student handbook
  • Facilitate common planning time activities
  • Assist with personnel management
  • Work with special education administration to ensure quality programming and compliance with state and federal law
  • Coordinate all student support services, including MTSS, to effectively and efficiently serve all students
  • Maintain a visible presence in the school, on the campus, and at school-sponsored activities
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan and all building and school committee initiatives
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the school budget
  • Responsible for the safety and administration of the school facilities
  • Coordinate teacher coverage as needed
  • Lead and support changes to curriculum, instruction, and assessment

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of and experience with developing standards-based units and aligning curricula and classroom lessons to national and local standards
  • Knowledge of and experience with developing the content and pedagogical knowledge of staff and enhancing instructional practices
  • Knowledge of and experience with formative and summative assessments validation and calibration
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collegial relationships, work as a productive member of a team, and facilitate workgroups
  • Knowledge and experience leading instructional change
  • Experience using data to make decisions
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, test data, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Ability to utilize current technology for communication, data analysis, and instruction
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school committee policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision and distance vision. The individual must meet deadlines with stringent time constraints and interact with the public and with other workers.
